CBA holds Instructional Dam Workshop in Niquelândia

The event aimed to inform the population in the self-rescue zone on how to act preventively and reinforce information about dam safety. The workshop is a part of the Emergency Action Plan (PAE) of the Jacuba and Mosquito dams
On May 31, Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio (CBA) held the 1st Instructional Dam Workshop in Niquelândia. The event took place at the Macedo Camp auditorium with the support of the Niquelândia Fire Department, Civil Defense, Niquelândia Municipal Environment Department (SEMMA), and the State Sustainable Development and Environmental Office (SEMAD).The workshop is a part of the Emergency Action Plan (PAE) of the Jacuba and Mosquito dams. The event was attended by the community residing in the self-rescue zone of the dams. Residents were informed about the safety of the structures and had their queries clarified regarding the planning for the emergency drill. They also received guidance on preventive measures."Since the first drill we conducted in 2020, we have strengthened the local relationship and maintained constant dialog with residents to inform them about each preventive action. This workshop is bolstering this communication and reinforcing our dam safety prevention and awareness culture, providing even more confidence for the community to continue participating in our initiatives," says Wagdo Gomes, Industrial Manager of CBA's Niquelândia plant.In 2023, the rescue drill will be conducted for the fourth time is as many years in Niquelândia, in June. The activities are promoted in line with CBA's good practices in dam safety and management, and in compliance with current legislation (Federal Law No. 14.066 and State Law No. 20.758, both enacted in 2020).Dam Safety System CBA has a robust safety management system which guarantees the physical integrity of its dams. This system includes monitoring routines carried out daily, weekly and monthly and subsequently forwarded to inspection agencies; as well as independent audits conducted by an independent specialized firm with internationally proclaimed competence, examining monitoring, controls and actions and semiannual audits for general dam assessment. According to the system evaluation, both dams in the Niquelândia Plant have been classified monthly over the last 12 months, as satisfactory, i.e. the best rating established by the system.
