In Alumínio, São Roque, Mairinque and Araçariguama, young leaders are transforming their cities through innovative projects, initiatives and proposals.   CBA - Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio - is initiating the third and final phase of the 2023 Project Citizenship Agents aimed at encouraging young people to participate in political education and the social development of their communities, The program is carried out in partnership with Instituto Votorantim and run by Instituto de Governo Aberto and Instituto Cidade Democrática since 2021.   By the end of 2022, the program had trained 148 young people, impacted 11,000 individuals through their actions, and implemented 8 local projects in the cities of Mairinque, Araçariguama, São Roque and Alumínio.   In this third phase, participants gather and share the results of the initiatives developed over the past year. The objective is to institutionalize spaces for participation with the municipal government so that young people can integrate them and influence local public policies. Whether through councils, forums, youth parliaments or any institutional initiative that allows for the continuous participation of local youth, the purpose is to leave a legacy in the cities.   Political education workshop in Mairinque José Vargas Rolim de Paula, currently a production engineering student, began his journey in the Citizenship Program at the age of 18. He and his team identified the need to involve young people in political discussions and raise awareness among citizens about the importance of civic participation. With this in mind, they developed a political education workshop that covered everything from the political structure of Brazil to the lack of democratic representation. The pilot project was held at the Arte Pacha cultural center, attended by approximately 15 people.   "The project aims to raise questions about the composition of the Brazilian political landscape and make students reflect on the lack of representation," says José.   The team, composed of Bruno Henrique Carvalho, César Martins, Gleyce Machado, Guilherme Bitencort, Henrique Pires, Rosecler Machado, Luana Nunes, Mariana Sacomani, Matheus Queiroz, Rayane Pato, Rodrigo Buzinelli, Romário Aparacido and Vitória Campo, is committed to promoting political awareness through seminars, games and other educational activities, with the goal of providing basic information about different elected positions at the municipal, state and federal levels.   Other Initiatives Other cities are also benefiting from the Citizenship Program. In Alumínio, Juliana Maziero and her team are focusing their efforts on promoting local culture by identifying the lack of access to cultural information among residents, especially young people. The project aims to conduct a diagnosis of demands for cultural public policies and establish a space for social participation focused on culture. With the support of local actors such as the São Roque Cultural Forum and the Mairinque Cultural Forum, the team has been working on creating internal regulations for the Permanent Culture Forum of Alumínio.   In Araçariguama, the team led by Ketsley Tayla Rodrigues dos Santos is organizing a cultural event and roundtable discussions on black awareness and planning activities in partnership with the city's only state school. The goal is to encourage dialog on social issues and promote greater inclusion of youth in public policies.   Ana Carolina Brito Lúcio, a resident of São Roque, directs her efforts towards the homeless population. Her team seeks to advocate for public policies that guarantee the basic rights of these individuals, such as access to bathing facilities and food. They are studying the current situation of this population in the city in order to propose effective public policy measures and seek support from the local executive power.   About CBA Founded in 1955, Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio - CBA is a vertically integrated producer, from cradle to gate, including recycling.
